Sacramental Preparation Programs

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)
Most adults who are interested in joining the Catholic Church here at St. Patrick's Cathedral will follow a program of instruction and dialogue. This journey of faith begins in the fall and ends at Easter each year. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church, or for more information about R.C.I.A., please call the Cathedral Office at 622-5389.

Baptism Preparation
Our one-hour evening course on the second Wednesday of the month is intended to educate the parents and Godparents about the importance of this sacrament and about their responsibility to train their children in the practice of the faith. The evening involves a video taped examination of the rite itself and a rehearsal.

First Confession and First Communion
For children in grade 2 who attend a Catholic School, the program is taught as part of their school curriculum.
Parents of children who are in grade 2 at a Public School are asked to teach their children about these 2 important Sacraments. They can pick up a free take-home program from the Cathedral Office.

Confirmation
For young people in grade 8 who attend a Catholic School, Confirmation classes are part of the school curriculum.
Young people who are in grade 8 at a Public School are asked to learn about the Sacrament on their own with the help of a free program available at the Cathedral Office.

Marriage Preparation
Each spring the Cathedral Marriage Preparation team prepares couples who are planning to marry, by providing them with a course offered on a weekend (Friday evening and all day Saturday).
