The Cathedral Choir

The Cathedral choir sings regularly at the 10:30 am Mass from September to June. This Choir sings at Christmas, the Triduum, and functions such as special Diocesan events, Ordinations, and clergy funerals. The choir is composed of volunteers, while the Director, organist(s), and cantor(s) are paid. Volunteers are welcome without audition. (It is, of course, essential that you can hold a tune.) The ability to read music to some degree is desirable, and if you are an alto, tenor or bass it is virtually essential. But if you can read to some degree, you will find yourself improving rapidly in the choir.

Since we are a cathedral as well as a parish church, we try to maintain a high standard both in selection and in performance. We sing traditional and contemporary music. We rehearse Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 pm and thirty minutes prior to every Mass.

Cantors come from within the choir, and rehearse from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and prior to every Mass. The 5:00 pm Mass on Saturday is lead by a cantor. During the summer the 5:00 pm and 10:30 am Masses are lead by cantors. Anyone interested in being a cantor should discuss it with Fae Lyngstad.

The choir always needs more singers and cantors. If you sing, you are welcome to come and try us out.

Music at Funerals

Presently we have a group of parishioners that come and sing for funerals. This group is available during the day. Rehearsals are kept to a minimum. We rehearse Wednesday mornings when scheduled. Families requesting particular music should get in touch with Fae Lyngstad. We have a regular organist and cantor available for funerals.

Music for Weddings

Couples intending to get married in the Cathedral should first consult with the Cathedral Rector. The organist for weddings is Evelyn Kushnier. Cantors are available on request. Call the office at 622-5389 for more information.
