RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (R.C.I.A.)

In this formation process, adults embark on a journey of Faith which helps them to discern whether or not to seek Baptism or membership in  the Catholic Church. It is for:
– non baptized adults;
– those who have been baptized in other Christian denominations and;
– baptized adult Catholics who have not been Confirmed or catechized.
Each year, the Process begins in the Fall and ends with the Mass of Easter Vigil when those who have participated publicly celebrate their Sacraments of Initiation. To register, please call the Parish Office (622-5389) .

BAPTISM FOR INFANTS & CHILDREN

bapt
Baptism, the gateway to all the  Sacraments, begins one’s  Christian  journey of life. In the Cathedral, this Sacrament is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 12:00 Noon. To register their child for Baptism, parents are  asked to notify the Parish Office at least 1 month prior to their preferred date of choice. To prepare for their child’s reception of the Sacrament, parents and godparents are expected to attend one class of instruction prior to the celebration in the Cathedral.

FIRST CONFESSION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: April 21 & April 22, 2018

The Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist are normally celebrated by children in Grade 2 in the Parish to which they belong and in the church where they attend Mass regularly. Since this is the Diocesan Church, parents, if they so wish, may request that their children receive these Sacraments in the Cathedral instead. The teachers in our Catholic Schools teach the children about Confession and Communion as part of the Grade 2 curriculum. Those who do not attend Catholic schools should be prepared by their parents. If needed or requested, resources and materials for this purpose are provided by the Parish.
Preparation to receive these Sacraments in our church will also be provided on several Sundays preceding the celebrations. Parents and children are also required to attend 1 preparation meeting prior to First Communion Sunday.

WEEKLY SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance), through the Ministry of   the  Church, Christ forgives and reconciles those who repent of their sins.

Individual Confessions are heard in the Cathedral each Saturday from 4:00 pm until 4:45 pm.

Two communal Penitential Services with individual confessions, one in Advent and the other in Lent are celebrated each year in each of the two wards of the City.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION: May 20, 2018

This third Sacrament of Initiation imparts the fullness of the Holy Spirit upon the baptized and brings with it the 7 spiritual gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgement, Knowledge, Courage, Piety and Reverence for God. In the Cathedral Parish it is celebrated annually on Pentecost Sunday. Registration and one preparation meeting is required for candidates and sponsors.

THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE

 Marriage 1 (2) img_3767
Christian Marriage is an unbreakable bond of life and love between a man and a woman. Each must freely promise exclusive fidelity to each other in a union open to children. To prepare for their marriage, couples are required to contact the Parish Office 6 months before their wedding and then to meet with the Cathedral Rector to complete the documents required for their marriage. A  course of preparation is also required. This weekend course takes place in the Cathedral Auditorium in the spring of each year and is organized and presented by volunteer married couples.
