CANDLEMAS DAY AND ST. BLAISE CELEBRATION
On February 2nd, forty days after Christmas, our Parish celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple. On this day each year candles are blessed throughout the Universal Church and distributed to the faithful. We sometimes call the day, ‘Candlemas’. On the following day, February 3rd, which marks the Memorial of St. Blaise, we pray that through the intercession of this Bishop and Martyr, God will protect us from all ailments of the throat and from every other evil.

PRESENTING THE CHURCH’S SYNOD SURVEY TO OUR PARISH
You may have heard that Pope Francis has asked that Catholics all over the world be consulted on a variety of different aspects of the Church’s Ministry in our day. To facilitate this process, which he has called a “Synodal Survey”, the Vatican has produced a set of different pertinent questions which have been sent to all the Dioceses of the world.
In each Diocese, the Parishes have been asked to conduct this survey as they see fit, to record and to submit the responses to the Diocesan Office for collection and collation of the material. They will then submit the answers to the Vatican.
To this end, in our Cathedral Parish, individual packages with the printed questions will be placed at the entrance to the Church as we begin our process here on the February 5/6 weekend. After the Mass, you will be encouraged to participate in the Survey by taking a package home with you, to pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit as you complete the survey and to return it to our Church or Parish Office by the end of February by placing it in the mail or in the Sunday Collection basket at Mass. A similar package of questions will also be posted on our Website, for those who prefer to access the survey questions online.
You can either disclose your name or remain anonymous when you answer the questions.
More information about the process will be explained during the Masses on the February 12/13 weekend.
