BECOMING A FULL MEMBER OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (R.C.I.A.)

In this formation process, adults embark on a journey of Faith which helps them to discern whether or not to seek Baptism or membership in  the Catholic Church.

It is for:
– non baptized adults;
– those who have been baptized in other Christian denominations and;
– baptized adult Catholics who have not been Confirmed or catechized.
Each year, the Process begins in the Fall and ends with the Mass of Easter Vigil when those who have participated publicly celebrate their Sacraments of Initiation.

To register, please call the Parish Office (622-5389) or print and complete the Form below and return it to us:

BAPTISM FOR INFANTS & CHILDREN

Baptism, the gateway to all the  Sacraments, begins one’s  journey of Christian life. In the Cathedral, this Sacrament is usually celebrated on a Sunday at 12:00 Noon. To register their child for Baptism, parents are  asked to notify the Parish Office at least 1 month prior to their preferred date of choice. To prepare for their child’s reception of the Sacrament, parents and godparents are expected to attend one class of instruction prior to the celebration in the Cathedral.

We thank Joan Joubert for providing our Parish with the white Baptismal garments that are gifted to all who are baptized in our Cathedral.

THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE

Mar
riage is an unbreakable bond of life and love between a man and a woman. Each must freely promise exclusive fidelity to each other in a union open to children. To prepare for their marriage, couples are required to contact the Parish Office 6 months before their wedding and then to meet with the Cathedral Rector to complete the documents required for their marriage. A  course of preparation is also required. This weekend course takes place in the Cathedral Auditorium in the spring of each year and is organized and presented by volunteer married couples.

Preparing the Music for Weddings

Miss Monica Prodanyk is a very talented singer and musician who assists couples to select and prepare the musical pieces and songs for the celebration of their Wedding Mass or Wedding Service in our Cathedral.  She will also acquaint the couples with Catholic Liturgical norms for weddings and Parish policies regarding musicians and singers.

THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The Anointing of the Sick is celebrated on the First Friday of each month following Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament as well as individually upon request.

In hospital emergencies when the Cathedral Rector cannot be reached or is not available, the family should ask hospital personnel to contact the  ‘Priest- on-Call’.
